Cheese of the week: Isle of Mull

We love this farmhouse Cheddar style cheese, recognised for its traditional craftsmanship and commitment to using local, high-quality ingredients…

Located on the West Coast of Scotland, as its name suggests, it is made by the Reade family, using their own cows, at Sgriob-ruadh Farm on the Isle of Mull.

  • It is an artisan cheese made from unpasteurised milk.
  • The cheese is crafted in small batches, contributing to its unique flavour and character.
  • Isle of Mull Cheese is typically matured for a minimum of six months, allowing it to develop a distinctive taste.
  • It has a natural rind that adds to its rustic appearance and contributes to its flavour.
  • The flavour is often described as rich, tangy, and slightly sweet, with a nutty undertone.
  • The cheese has a firm texture that becomes crumbly as it ages.

We recommend Isle of Mull on your winter cheese board. It pairs well with both red & white wine. Depending on your preference of course, it also complements a malty ale or bitter!

Sustainable practices at Sgriob-ruadh Farm include using renewable energy & in an effort to reduce waste, they make a whey spirit & feed the excess to their herd of pigs.
