Here is our favourite award winning selection:
Ashcombe: Made by David Jowett at Kingstone Dairy in Chedworth in the heart of the Cotswolds. Ashcombe is based on the classic French cheese "Morbier". Ashcombe has a lovely golden colour with a horizontal line of wood ash running through the centre of the cheese and is made with pasteurised organic milk and traditional rennet. This semi soft cheese has a wonderful rich, milky and gentle flavour to it.
Pitchfork Cheddar; First made in 2017, Pitchfork has rapidly become one of the most sought after cheeses in the UK. Pitchfork has now joined the other three cheddars, Montgomery, Westcombe and Keens in the Slow Food Presidium of Artisan Somerset Cheddars. This is “the real thing” in the world of cheddars, it has a dense creamy texture with an acidic tang. The use of Jersey milk seems to give an additional dimension of creaminess to the long lasting taste. Little wonder that it won “Best Traditional Cheddar” at the British Cheese Awards in 2019 along with “Best British Cheese" at the World Cheese Awards 2019.
Beauvale; A gold medal winner at the British Cheese Awards in 2019 and gold at the World Cheese awards 2018 Beauvale is a soft creamy blue cheese made by Cropwell Bishop Creamery who are renowned Stilton makers. Like all new cheeses, Beauvale’s maker, Robin Skailes, took many months to perfect the recipe before releasing the finished product. Robin’s aim was to produce a soft mild blue cheese that would be quite different from the family’s Stilton and at the same time not copying Gorgonzola Dolce. This he has achieved, the strain of blue is certainly milder than Stilton and the texture though soft is firmer than a Gorgonzola. It has a wonderful melt-in-the-mouth texture and flavours that range from mellow butteriness to rich savoury with a hint of spice.
Michaels Mount; Made by Pete Humphries of Somerset's Whitelake Cheese. Michaels Mount is made with a rich unpasteurised goat’s milk, this is a soft lactic cheese with a delicately fresh flavour when young, becoming more robust with age. Great addition to a cheese board, added to some sweet chutney on a cracker compliments its strong and distinct flavours. Made with unpasteurised milk and vegetarian rennet.
Orkney Thin Oatcakes; Traditional Scottish fare, oatcakes continue to be popular through their versatility, and as alternative to bread and crackers. Allergens: Contains wheat - may contain milk, sesame & nuts
Te Merio Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc; Classically aromatic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with a gently maritime tang of minerality. It is full of texture and breadth with zesty citrus and white stone fruits. Luscious gooseberry aromas follow through into the palate where it explodes with a full on citrus zing that is balanced by fantastic texture and weight. The finish is clean, crisp and refreshing. Allergens: Contains Sulphites
Pablo y Walter Malbec; A really pure expression of Malbec, deep red almost purple in colour and wonderfully aromatic with lifted violet, redcurrant and cassis notes. Muy, muy fantasticó – richly bloody, vibrant, Latin and velveteen. Allergens: Contains Sulphites
